Alexisms of the week

“I’m a cat … hisssss …. meow.”

Yes, he hissed at me.

“That’s the biggest tree I’ve ever seen my whole life!”

Guess he forgot the trip to Yosemite and the big redwood trees.

“It’s really dangerous. Only for Alex and Daddy. Not you mommy”

“I’m like a pirate. Captain Hook!”

“I want to see the White Sox hit a home run.”

2 pitches later, Andruw Jones hits one over the fence.

Me: “Whoa!”  I switch back to the Cubs game (which had been in commercial)  “Do that again!” I say.

It doesn’t work.

Take me out to the ballgame

He’s almost got all the words down.

My favorite part is when he sings “Root, root, root for the Cubbies … they don’t win”

Yea, he’s got that part right.

Weekend Alexisms

“I’m a black man!” – We’ve watched a few soccer games and highlights this week. We’ve been trying to teach him not to use his hands, but he notices some players are special and get to use hands – like the goalies who wear a different color jersey – like black. Hence, when he calls out he’s a black man, he means he’s the goalie and is allowed to use his hands. We’re working on the word “goalie” or at least a different jersey color.

Additionally, the Cubs were playing the Angels over the weekend, so he pointed to the TV and blurted out: “He’s a red man!”

Slap to the forehead.

While we were playing soccer Sunday evening, Alex yelled out “Jamma break!” and ran to the couch for a quick thumb-sucking recess.

We’re in full-blown “Why?” mode around here. He’s asking a ton of questions and immediately follows it up with at least 2 “Whys?”

“What are you doing, dad?” “Making dinner.” “Why?” “Because we’re hungry.” “Why?”

But tonight he jumped the gun.

“What are you doing, dad? Why?” “Um, let me answer the first question, first!”

“Happy Birthday to you. Cha-cha-cha!” Not sure where that one came from, but right now it’s his favorite tune/phrase.

Sunday’s Alexisms

Pointing to Sara: “You have lots of teeth. Like a dinosaur.”

While I was reading him books before bed: “Hey Daddy! You’re my best friend ever!”

Putting him to down to bed, Sara and I both outstretched our arms to see who he would hug first. He looked as us being ridiculous and said, “What in the world?”

Letters

Alex had just woken up for his nap as the Cubs game I was watching was winding down. He climbed on the couch with me and snuggled with his ‘jamma, sucking his thumb. The Cubs, playing a home game, won and the crowd was cheering. A bunch of people in the stands broke out their immitation ‘W’ flags – representing the flag that Wrigley traditionally runs up the flag pole in center field after every win.

As the TV kept showing a bunch of people holding these flags, I asked Alex what letter that was. He’s getting pretty good at identifying them, so every chance we get, we ask him.

“I don’t want to talk right now,” was his response.
