Progress Report

3 days of yard work is too much.  I’m so glad to be back at work today so I can take a break.  Every muscle hurts … but it’s a good burn, right?

So here’s where we’re at.  The back lawn grass is stripped, the play area is installed and most of the woodchips are spread out in it.  We still have a bit more of the wood chip pile to add in and then we can move the toys into it.  Yay no more dead lawn because of them!  We still have a lot of dirt left to spread around and holes to fill before any seeding can start.  But we’re making good progress.

The front yard is closer to being ready for seeding.  The grass was stripped and the huge divot in the lawn is now filled in.  We also took the time to adjust the retaining wall bricks that outline the plants.  Half the bricks were buried (something Sara hasn’t let me live down since I did that several years ago), so we dug them up and realigned them all.  Now the retaining wall is a whole brick row higher than what it was.  Which is good because then we can add extra mulch around the bushes to contain the weeds better.

I’d like to get the sidewalk fixed while we’re in this stage, too, since they’ll do some damage to the lawn on either side anyway.  I’ll be getting quotes on that soon.  That’s one project I’d rather have a pro do, if it’s not too expensive.

So it’s been a ton of work and I’m very achy from it.  There’s still a lot to do – a lot of mulch and dirt to spread around, but the end is approaching.   Fortunately, I have some good help.

No wonder you were sore all over! You took on a huge job! Very industrious! We would have waited a few years and made our kids do all the heavy stuff.

If we waited much longer, Alex would have sprained an ankle trying to run through all the holes in our yard.
